Andy Couzens has claimed that Leeds United’s ‘biggest problem’ this season has been their missed opportunities in the final third.

In a number of games this season, Marcelo Bielsa’s side have dominated possession and had numerous attempts on goal, but the scoreline had favoured the opposition.

A prime example was their most recent defeat at Birmingham City where Patrick Bamford missed a number of guilt-edge chances, including hitting the woodwork a few times.

Speaking to Talking Shutt (10/04/2019), former Leeds man Couzens expressed his frustration at the promotion-chasing side not being able to take their chances this season.

“I think the biggest problem we have had is the final third of the pitch,” Couzens told Talking Shutt. “We’ve had Roofe out for quite a while now, you go back to the Sheff Utd game we had 19 attempts and we didn’t have one on target. I think that’s the ultimate side of it, if we had taken all of our chances, I think we’d be 10 points clear.

“Against Birmingham, we dominated possession again and I think we only had one shot on target, maybe two, we hit the post. There’s a theme with it. We’ve got five games left now, we need to take out chances – if we do we’ll win all of our games.”

On Tuesday night, Leeds moved back into the automatic places by beating Preston North End 2-0, with Ben Pearson getting sent off when the scores were 0-0.

Summer signing Bamford took his chances during that match as he netted a brace, with the returning Kemar Roofe coming off the bench for a few minutes of action.

In even more positive news for the Whites, their promotion rivals Sheffield United dropped points at St Andrew’s which means promotion to the Premier League is once again in their hands.
