Newcastle United are amongst a host of clubs looking at taking Liverpool striker Divock Origi on a season-long loan.

Former Newcastle striker Andy Cole has told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (broadcast 30th August 2017; 8:50am) that the Magpies would be pulling off a good deal by bringing Liverpool forward Divock Origi to St James’ Park this summer.

The Chronicle recently suggested that Newcastle were amongst a host of clubs considering targeting the Belgian this summer after his mixed time at Anfield.

The 22-year-old has struggled to enjoy a run in the team, and the Chronicle suggested that the Reds would consider allowing him to leave on a season-long loan deal.

However, the Magpies face a considerable amount of competition for his signature – with the Chronicle naming nine clubs across Europe who are monitoring the forward’s situation, including Juventus, Tottenham and Inter Milan.

But Cole suggested that the Magpies should not be deterred as Origi would be worth the effort as he would bring something to the team that Rafa Benitez currently does not have at his disposal.

“Yeah definitely if they get him because he’s got pace,” he told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT when asked whether Origi would be a good signing.

“I think if you’re a centre-forward in the Premier League and got pace, you’re going to cause defenders problems. Mostly, that’s what they lack. Mitrovic isn’t going to try go in behind, Gayle’s a good finisher but he’s totally different to Origi if they do get him to come in.”

With Newcastle lacking striker options currently, it would arguably be a good move for Origi to make the switch from Liverpool.

The Magpies are obviously a massive club, and a loan switch to St James’ Park would present him with the perfect opportunity to prove to Jurgen Klopp that he can cut it in the Premier League.
