West Ham United took somewhat of a punt by bringing the former France international to the club last week.

Andy Carroll thanks the fans during a lap of honor after the Premier League match between West Ham United and Liverpool at London Stadium on May 14, 2017 in Stratford, England.

West Ham ace Andy Carroll spoke to reporters after his side’s win over Birmingham City in the FA Cup on Saturday, and offered high words of praise for Samir Nasri, suggesting that the Frenchman has excellent technical ability, as quoted but the club’s official website.

The 31-year-old joined the Hammers on a short-term deal until the end of the season last week, and it is now up to him to prove to Manuel Pellegrini and the club’s board that he is deserving of a more long-term contract.

Nasri is, and always has been, an exceptional footballing talent, but the 12 months that he spent away from he game meant that Pellegrini was taking a big risk by bringing him to the London Stadium.

Carroll highlighted how Nasri’s fitness was a long way from where it needed to be when he linked up with West Ham, when speaking to the club’s official website, but he insisted that the former Arsenal and Manchester City ace has worked really hard to improve upon that:

“I think you could see Samir was not fit at all when he first started training but he’s been working, really, really hard and you knew straight away his technical ability hadn’t gone and it will never go and he’s really, really good on the ball.”

Next up for West Ham is a home game against Nasri’s former team Arsenal, and the Frenchman will be desperate for another chance to impress Pellegrini.

Whether he will make a difference for the Hammers between now and the end of the season, however, remains to be seen.
