Newcastle United should make a move for West Ham United striker Andy Carroll in the summer transfer window.

Newcastle United are going strong in the Championship at the moment and should be able to finish in the top two. That would ensure automatic promotion to the Premier League for the 2017-18 campaign.
One suspects that Newcastle will make signings in the summer transfer window in order to make the squad competitive for the Premier League, and one of the players they should be looking at is Andy Carroll.
Carroll started his professional club football career at Newcastle and earned the move to Liverpool in January 2011. Things did not go well at the Reds, and even at West Ham, the situation is far from perfect.
The England international striker has struggled with injury concerns at West Ham, and that has hampered his progress at the Hammers. However, when fit, the 28-year-old scores goals, as he has done for Slaven Bilic’s side this season.
Dwight Gayle is Newcastle’s first-choice striker this season. The 27-year-old has scored 21 goals and provides two assists so far this campaign, but his record in the Premier League is far from impressive.
The 27-year-old was able to score just 26 goals in 74 games for Palace. Ayoze Perez is a promising young forward, but the 23-year-old is still developing and is not ready to lead the line.
If Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez plays Carroll to his strength, then the Englishman could score a lot of goals for the Magpies in the Premier League.
The former Liverpool striker has experience of playing in the English top flight, and his attributes would give something different to the Magpies’ attack.
Fitness would be a concern given the England international striker’s injury record, but signing Carroll for a decent transfer fee would be a wise move for Newcastle.
