The Bayern Munich striker would be a great upgrade on Andy Carroll for West Ham United.

Manuel Pellegrini the head coach

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini will surely be looking to bolster his ranks at the London Stadium in January, in an effort to build a squad capable of making a sustained push for the top seven this season.

It is unclear how much money the Chilean will have available to him, however.

It might just be a case of one in one out, and topping the list of potential exits is Andy Carroll, with the Sunday Post reporting that he is a target for Celtic.

If the 6ft 4in hitman leaves, Pellegrini will obviously have to bring in another striker, and according to the Sun, the man for the job could be Bayern Munich striker Sandro Wagner.

The German is the same height as Carroll, and plays in a similar style to the Geordie, but it could be argued that he is better technically, and is a more accomplished finisher.

And if West Ham could bring in the Bayern ace, whilst shipping out Carroll, it really would be an excellent piece of business from the east London outfit.

The former Newcastle and Liverpool forward is hopelessly unreliable from a a fitness perspective, and Wagner, 31, would undoubtedly be an improvement in that particular department.

The Bayern Munich front-man excels when playing with his back to goal, and he would provide a fantastic focal point for the Hammers from which to build their attacks.

And should Pellegrini manage to bring Wagner to the London Stadium, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for West Ham.
