West Ham United striker Andy Carroll has commented on reports surfacing this morning that he has suffered a setback in his latest comeback from injury.

The Hammers have been without the big target man since he injured his ankle on a poor playing surface away at Romanian minnows Astra Giurgiu in Europa League qualifying last month.

It is the latest in a career blighted by injuries and continues an unwelcome record for the striker of having never started a season fully fit since joining the Hammers in 2012.

Reports have emerged online claiming the former Newcastle United and Liverpool star will now be out until the end of October after suffering a setback in his recovery.

But the England striker has taken Twitter to deny the reports and set the record straight.

“My recovery is going great this was a six-eight week injury so everything is going to plan!! #NoSetback,” Carroll said on Twitter.

A wave of injuries including the one suffered by the injury-prone forward, four defeats from their first five Premier League games, infighting amongst fans at their new 60,000 seater Olympic Stadium home, resentment towards owners and concerns over safety have soured the Hammers’ season so far.

Slaven Bilic‘s side have just one win to their name so far and even then they scraped past Bournemouth 1-0.

The Hammers were also embarrassingly dumped out of the Europa League by Romanian minnows Astra Giurgiu for the second season running.

Back-to-back 4-2 defeats to Watford and West Bromwich Albion have left the Hammers in the relegation zone.

So fans, and indeed Bilic, will be relieved to learn the fresh reports are wide of the mark and Carroll is indeed on schedule for his return.

West Ham now face three huge home games in a row to get their season back on track with games against Accrington Stanley in the League Cup before entertaining Southampton on Sunday and Middlesbrough next weekend.
