Newcastle United winger Andros Townsend has told the Chronicle that he owes the club after making his England return.
Townsend was named in Roy Hodgson’s provision 26-man squad for Euro 2016 last week. He was a second half substitute on Friday as he made a brief appearance in the 2-1 win over Australia.

His return to the international setup came after a strong end to the campaign saw him play a huge role as the Magpies mounted a late bid for survival in the Premier League.
He had been rotting in the reserves at Tottenham Hotspur before a move to St James’ Park in the January transfer window, and he says he owes the club for giving him the chance.
“I owe a lot to Newcastle for getting me playing Premier League football again and getting me back in the England squad,” he told the Chronicle.
“So I owe it to them and hopefully I did Newcastle proud when I came on, It’s been good [to be back involved].”
England manager Roy Hodgson
It will now be interesting to see if Townsend can make it into the final 23-man squad for the tournament this summer.
Roy Hodgson has to trim three players from his current selection, and at present it is hard to name who those players will be.
Fabian Delph is likely to miss out after picking up and injury, but beyond him the decision is a tough one to predict and Townsend will be hoping he doesn’t miss out.
