Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend is aiming to help his team put together an early-season run of form, after they secured their maiden win of the new Premier League campaign, as reported by the Croydon Advertiser.

Townsend joined Crystal Palace in a £13 million move from Newcastle in the summer transfer window – just six months after he had made the move to Tyneside from former club Tottenham.

After linking up with his new club, Townsend has since featured in all four of their Premier League fixtures, and has formed a formidable partnership with fellow winger Wilfried Zaha.

After helping the Eagles triumph 2-1 over Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon for their first victory of the new campaign, Townsend is now hoping that both he and the club can recapture some of the form that saw them stave off relegation just two seasons ago under former manager Tony Pulis.

“We are set up well with the pace we have in the team,” Townsend was quoted as saying in the Croydon Advertiser.

“On the other hand we have great home support and I am sure we can put some great results together at home as well.

“I have not felt any tension at all – last season is last season. We might not have won in the first two or three games this season but we didn’t think beyond that.

“We wanted to win at Middlesbrough to get our season up and running. Last season taught us not to put positions on things.

Despite finishing last season in 15th place in the Premier League, Palace’s form in the latter half of the season was extremely poor – with their form away from home in particular presenting a huge cause for worry amongst their fans.

After earning a hard-fought three points at the Riverside stadium however, the 11-times capped England winger was quick to highlight the importance of taking it just one game at a time.

“We are just looking to build on this performance,” he added. “We have a home game next. We will look for three points. We have to keep focusing on the next game and see where it takes us. I was brought to this club to be effective, to help this club get to the next level.

“I have to score and make goals. That is what I am focused on doing. My end product was something that was always spoken about in the early days.

“I did well on that front at Newcastle and I have to carry it on into this team and hopefully as the games go on I will contribute a bit more.”

Crystal Palace next face off against Stoke City at home on Sunday afternoon. Stoke are currently bottom of the table after taking just one point from their opening four encounters.
