The Tottenham Hotspur winger looks set for Newcastle United.
According to a report from the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend is set to join Newcastle United on loan this month before completing a permanent move in the summer.
The 24-year-old has barely featured for Spurs’ first-team this season and has recently been consigned to the under-21s, where he has been impressing with his attitude and scoring rate.
However, if Townsend wants to earn a place in England’s squad for Euro 2016 he will have to be playing regular first-team football in the build-up, which makes a temporary switch to Newcastle a sensible option for all concerned.
With Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy allegedly holding out for £14million if a club wants to sign Townsend out right, a loan move may be the only option as sides refuse to pay the asking price.
The Standard now claims the winger is on the verge of completing a temporary switch to St James’ Park with an agreement in place to make the move permanent for £12million in the summer.
That would allow Newcastle the chance to see if the player is worth Tottenham’s asking price over the next six months before making a final call.
