Crystal Palace have gotten off to a brilliant start to the season so far and Andros Townsend hopes to continue that in the coming days.

Andros Townsend of Crystal Palace celebrate during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Crystal Palace at London Stadium on October 5, 2019 in London, United Kingdom.

Andros Townsend spoke to The Evening Standard about Crystal Palace’s start to the season and the difficult run coming up over the next month.

Roy Hodgson’s side are currently sixth in the table after an impressive start to the season. The Eagles are just two points behind the defending champions and their next opponent, Manchester City. Palace have a frightening run coming up in the league as they take on four of the big six in their next five games.

Just two defeats in their first eight games is a phenomenal record for a club like Crystal Palace who also picked up an impressive victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier in the season.

Townsend was asked about his side’s good start to the campaign and the difficult run coming up to which he said that his side are hoping to get a few more shock results.

He said: “It’s been a very good start, but it’s important not to get carried away.

“The League position at this stage doesn’t really count for anything. We’ve been on a good run, we’ve picked up some points, which has been unexpected of us, but now come the tough games — and it doesn’t come much tougher than City.

“We’re fully focused on that and, hopefully, we can pull off another few shocks in the next few games.”

After the game against Manchester City, Palace take on Arsenal, Leicester City, Chelsea and Liverpool. If Roy Hodgson can manage to come away with minimal damage by the end of this horror run, he should be certain of a hugely positive season.

Townsend scored an absolute screamer against Manchester City in a shock 3-2 victory for the Eagles last season. Palace fans will be hoping for a repeat of that but it will not be easy against the defending champions who are desperate to close the gap between themselves and Liverpool.
