Andros Townsend scored to help Crystal Palace defeat Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup.

It was Townsend’s first goal against his former side since being sold by Spurs in 2016.

The winger was reluctant to celebrate his strike, showing respect to his old club.

This decision was criticised on Twitter by one fan, who suggested that Tottenham did not treat him as well as they should have done.

Regardless of whether they did or not towards the end, Townsend was adamant that he owes his career to Spurs after spending 16 years at the club after joining their academy as a youngster.

He responded to highlight this, and say that he wanted to show respect to the North London side.

Townsend’s actions and message were praised by former Tottenham captain Graham Roberts, who also congratulated him on a strong performance.

Townsend is in strong form, also scoring at Anfield against Liverpool a week earlier.
