Newcastle United reportedly want to sign Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window.

Andros Townsend has been linked with Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, but the Crystal Palace winger’s latest comments suggest that he is not planning to leave anytime soon.

According to Sky Sports, Newcastle are interested in signing Townsend, who spent just half a season at St. James’ Park before leaving in the summer of 2016 for Palace for a transfer fee reported by The Times to be worth £13 million.

The 27-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur winger, though, has suggested that he is focused on Palace for the 2018-19 campaign.

Townsend told The Mirror: “Of course, and especially after last season, it is the aim to hit the ground running. That is always the aim – and we have been looking good in pre-season so far.

“It is always different once you are under the pressures of the Premier League, but we are as prepared as we possibly can be.

“We are going into the season in great shape and hopefully we can get a better start than last time.”

Crystal Palace stay

Townsend’s aforementioned comments suggest that he is not thinking about Palace in the summer transfer window and is focused fully on Palace for the 2018-19 campaign.

While the former Tottenham winger – who earns £55,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – did well during his time at St. James’ Park, he is settled at Palace for now, and it would not make much sense for him to leave the Eagles for the Magpies for now.

Newcastle, though, could do with a player of Townsend’s experience and quality in their team for the 2018-19 campaign.
