Andros Townsend told talkSPORT that one-time Tottenham favourite, Mauricio Pochettino, is ‘world-class’.
The Crystal Palace winger claimed that the general public didn’t give Pochettino credit for the job he did at Tottenham.
From a team that hardly finished in Europe to a team that now seems lost in muddied water when they don’t, it was some transformation by the Argentian during his days in North London.
And after Poch helped PSG progress through to the last four of the Champions League on Tuesday night, Townsend shared that he would like to see his former boss win the whole thing.
“I’d like to see Poch win it having played under him,” said Townsend. “He deserves to win it. All of his work at Southampton went unnoticed.
“The incredible job he did at Spurs because it didn’t end with a trophy, for some reason, the general public don’t give him any credit for taking Spurs from also-rans to the Champions League final.
“So, I think he deserves it and I think PSG deserve it as well. Mbappe, Neymar and these players, who have been battling for years to try and take PSG to the top. They deserve it.
“Of course (Poch is world-class). He’s one of the best managers, if not the best manager in the world. Name be another manager that could do what he did with Spurs over a five-year period.”
Both PSG and Pochettino already have one thing in common. They have suffered heartache in the Champions League final.
When Poch was at Spurs, a lot was made about how they didn’t win a trophy even though he spent very little, financially, compared to his rivals, improved a number of players and played progressive football.
Well, it would be some story if, in his first season in Paris, he guides the club to their first-ever European Cup.
