Danny Rose’s Tottenham Hotspur career is set to end on a whimper, it would seem.
The 30-year-old is out of contract at Spurs in a few months and considering he is frozen out of the senior picture by Jose Mourinho, there probably won’t be a farewell game.
Rose was not given a squad number by Mourinho for the 2020-21 campaign and reported rejected two offers to leave Tottenham in the January transfer window.
It’s a disappointing conclusion for one player who was instrumental for the Lilywhites during Mauricio Pochettino’s five-year reign at the club.
In fact, former Tottenham winger Andros Townsend has revealed that Rose and the Argentine coach – now at Paris Saint-Germain – had an unbreakable bond in North London, claiming that Rose was ‘literally son of Pochettino’ on talkSPORT.
He said: “Probably Danny Rose with Pochettino. He was literally of Pochettino and I’m sure he won’t mind me saying that. They would go on romantic walks on the training, always in his office. They had a special bond.”
The writing was on the wall for Rose when Mourinho signed Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid.
Even after loaning out another left-back in Ryan Sessegnon, who joined Hoffenheim in Germany, the Portuguese was content with Ben Davies and the Spaniard as his two primary options for that role.
