West Ham United went into the international break off the back of a defeat at the London Stadium.

The Irons conceded a stoppage-time goal to suffer a 1-0 defeat to Wolves at the London Stadium at the weekend. The loss is the club’s fourth of the campaign and leaves them as the only team in the top flight yet to pick up a single point so far this term.
And while reflecting on the performance, Yarmolenko – who replaced Robert Snodgrass at the break – suggested that although the display improved in the second-half, they were not good enough on the day.
“We played better in the second half, but we lost,” he told the club’s official website. “It’s really difficult to take and I don’t know what to say. I want to say sorry to our fans and we must perform better after the international break.

“We have good players and a good coach, but we must fight for results and I think now we must think hard about our next game, concentrate hard and win.”
Before the campaign began, there was talk of the Hammers perhaps being the side that would surprise many and push towards emulating what Burnley achieved last season.

But it appears that West Ham may now just need to focus on survival. There is obviously more than enough time to turn the situation around considerably, but some of the performances so far hint that that may not be easy for the time-being.
Pellegrini’s men face Everton in their first game back following the international break before hosting Chelsea and Manchester United before the end of the month.
