Tottenham Hotspur would have been wise to bid for the Ukraine international.
Despite a shaky few weeks Tottenham Hotspur ultimately enjoyed a relatively successful transfer window, signing Moussa Sissoko, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Pau Lopez on deadline day and taking their number of new signings to five in the process.
Along with Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen, the trio ensure Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has plenty of quality options for the challenges ahead. However, there is one player they should have gone all out for as they attempted to improve on last season’s third-place finish.
While N’Koudou adds more attacking options out wide he is still developing his game and he is unlikely to take White Hart Lane by storm from the outset.
In contrast, Andriy Yarmolenko is a 26-year-old, free-scoring winger who would have instantly transformed Tottenham’s starting XI.
The Dynamo Kiev player has scored 128 goals and provided 84 assists in 326 matches, and with that kind of record a £25million bid would have made perfect sense if Tottenham had tried their hand.
A recent report from the Daily Mail claimed the Ukraine international could leave Kiev for the knock-down price but Tottenham instead ploughed their money into moves for Sissoko and N’Koudou.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing in football, and it may have simply been that Pochettino did not fancy Yarmolenko, but when you consider some of the prices paid in the last few months, £25million for the international wide man would have been an absolute steal.
