Andriy Yarmolenko has admitted to West Ham United’s official website that he is not fit enough yet.

Yarmolenko missed a large chunk of last term with an Achilles injury, and he is only just making his way back into West Ham’s team now.

Manuel Pellegrini has been eager to push Yarmolenko straight back into the Hammers line-up, after his return to fitness.

But Yarmlenko, who is West Ham’s highest earner on £115,000-a-week (Spotrac), admits that he still has some way to go before he is feeling at his sharpest.

“So far, I am just getting into shape, and I understand that I am not yet in optimal condition because I have missed a lot of time due to a serious injury,” he said.

The comments should be encouraging for West Ham fans as if Yarmolenko still has gears to move into then he could become a major threat.

Yarmlenko has already opened his goalscoring account for the campaign for the Hammers, after finishing neatly against Norwich City.

Before his injury, the rangy winger was also looking as if he had settled well into life in England, but his progress has been thwarted more recently.

If Yarmolenko can get back to his best then West Ham may have one of the most feared attacks in the Premier League, with the likes of Sebastian Haller and Manuel Lanzini starting this season very brightly.

The Hammers are next in action in a week’s time, when they take on Aston Villa.
