The Celtic signing is impressing his country’s legendary striker and now manager.
Andriy Shevchenko is anticipating big things for Celtic new boy Maryan Shved.
Celtic signed the Ukraine winger in January but he was immediately loaned back to Karpaty Lviv, meaning that he hasn’t made his Hoops debut yet.
Shved arrived at Lennoxtown toward the end of last season and his form for Lviv – where he netted 14 goals from 24 appearances last term overall – indicates that he could be a serious player for Neil Lennon.
That’s the view of Shevchenko anyway, with the legendary striker and Ukraine manager predicting big things for the 21-year-old – but admits that he’s far from the finished article.
He said via The Record: “It’s clear he has a lot of talent. There is still work to be done, but he has progressed hugely.
“He has just made a very big transfer for a massive club like Celtic and he is motivated to show them what he can do when he goes to Scotland.
“There’s no doubt he has improved a lot and he will go on to be a big player for Ukraine.”
Shved is a very exciting prospect and although he was signed under Brendan Rodgers, Lennon must be delighted to inherit him.
The youngster was actually Rodgers’s last-ever permanent signing as Celtic manager, so if he turns out to be a big hit in Glasgow then it might minimise the anger toward the Northern Irishman, who sensationally walked away from the Bhoys to join Leicester City in February.
