Liverpool drew 1-1 at Manchester City on Sunday afternoon – but could have easy lost as Kevin De Bruyne missed a first-half penalty.
The Reds made the trip to the Etihad Stadium seeking a big three points in their hopes to retain the Premier League title, and looked dangerous early on.
They did take the lead as Sadio Mane was brought down inside the area by Kyle Walker, with Mohamed Salah stepping up to fire home the penalty.
De Bruyne picked out Gabriel Jesus for the equaliser, as he showed a sharp turn before firing past Alisson to bring City level.
Joe Gomez then handled De Bruyne’s cross, but the Belgian fired wide from the penalty spot in a miss that proved costly, with City unable to find a winner.
The second half was a more cautious affair after a breathless first half, the two sides who have been rivals for a few years now had to settle for a point apiece.
Liverpool players took to Twitter to react to the draw, with Andrew Robertson admitting that he ‘wanted more’ than a point, but the Reds will take it and move on.
James Milner and Gini Wijnaldum offered similar comments, whilst goalkeeper Adrian felt the draw was ‘very good’ as many Liverpool players now head away on international duty.
