Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has praised new signing Alexis Mac Allister after completing his move from Brighton and Home Albion.

Alexis Mac Allister has joined Liverpool and his new teammate Andrew Robertson appears to be very excited.

Liverpool secured their first signing of the summer earlier this month, announcing the arrival of Mac Allister from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Mirror report that the fee involved was £45million, much cheaper than many initially expected.

Mac Allister enjoyed a fine season with 10 goals and two assists in 35 Premier League games for Brighton.

Oh, and Mac Allister managed to win the World Cup with Argentina too; not bad at all.

The hope is that Mac Allister will now help Liverpool win some silverware too, especially after a difficult season.

Liverpool fans seem pretty excited and it now seems that new Reds teammate Robertson feels the same way.

Left back Andrew Robertson is leading the praise having spoken about Mac Allister this week.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Robertson admitted that he actually wished that Mac Allister joined Liverpool a while ago.

That is far a somewhat selfish reason as Robertson wanted to try and tempt Mac Allister into playing for Scotland rather than Argentina.

Mac Allister has Scottish heritage but it wasn’t actually enough to have made him eligible to join Robertson in the Scotland national team setup.

Regardless, Robertson has praised Mac Allister as a ‘fantastic player’ having come up against him on a number of occasions in the Premier League.

Robertson added that Mac Allister has done ‘special stuff’ for club and country, meaning he is a ‘really good signing’ for Liverpool and the early nature of his move means he can settle in at Anfield quickly.

“I wish [Mac Allister] came to us a wee bit earlier to help convince him to play for Scotland earlier! He’s a fantastic player and I’ve played against him over the past two or three years,” said Robertson.

“He’s done some special stuff for Brighton and Argentina, being a World Cup winner and that. And he’s still relatively young. A really good signing for us, we’ve managed to get it done early for him for preseason so he’ll be able to settle in and he’ll be a success at this club,” he added.
