Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson has shrugged off comments from Gary Neville.

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has told the Daily Mail that he isn’t concerned about Gary Neville’s opinion on him after the pundit almost admitted the Scot has proven him wrong.

The Reds were in the market for a left back over the summer after years of underwhelming displays from Alberto Moreno, and because right-footed midfielder James Milner filled in at left back last season.

Jurgen Klopp avoided the temptation to splash huge money on a big-name left back, but he did bring in Hull City’s Andrew Robertson following the Tigers’ relegation to the Championship.

The Scotland international had shown potential with Hull and impressed last season, with Liverpool paying just £8million (The Independent) to lure him from the KCOM Stadium to Anfield.

Whilst Moreno kicked off the season as Liverpool’s first-choice left back, Robertson has really come on strong in recent weeks, and his impressive performances have really caught the eye of Reds fans.

Earlier this season, pundit Gary Neville suggested that Robertson wasn’t good enough if Liverpool wanted to win the Premier League title, but he was forced into something of a retraction earlier this month.

As quoted by HITC, Neville admitted that Robertson was going some way to proving him wrong, and he had changed his mind about the Liverpool defender, admitting that he had impressed him more than he ever thought possible.

Now, Robertson has commented on the situation, telling the Daily Mail that he doesn’t know why Neville had that initial opinion of him, but he isn’t putting too much weight into Neville’s comments, and wants to prove people who doubt him wrong.

“Maybe he hadn’t seen me play enough,” said Robertson. “Maybe he just thought it’s a signing from Hull. I don’t know what his thought process was but it’s one man’s opinion. If he thought I wasn’t good enough, no problem. But these are the people I want to try to prove wrong.”

“You want to make your fans and your family proud. But it’s the people who doubt you who motivate you more. I’m quite good at dealing with it. I was confident in my ability that if I could get a run of big games, I would build on it,” he added.
