Glasgow Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor has been a revelation since returning to Ibrox, and he shone on international duty this week.

In comments reported by The Scottish Sun, Andrew Robertson has claimed that Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor won Scotland their Nations League clash with Israel, with the defender labelling the Gers stopper different class.

Scotland secured promotion with a dramatic 3-2 win over Israel at Hampden Park. James Forrest bagged the hat-trick, but McGregor also played an important role in helping Alex McLeish’s men to hold onto the win as he made a superb reaction save late on.

Tomer Hemed’s volley looked destined to hit the roof of the net in the final moments of the game, but the Rangers summer signing managed to throw out a paw and push the effort away brilliantly. And after the game, Robertson suggested that McGregor deserves an enormous amount of praise for his displays in the group.

“Greegsy didn’t have much to do all night, but he stepped up to the plate and pulled off a fantastic save,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun. “We needed everyone and that was his contribution. Greegsy has been different class.

“He probably kept the score down against Israel away, and he won us the game here. We believed he would make that save, but from a defensive point of view we need to stop that kind of chance at source and we’ll work on that.”

While many would have probably expected Hemed’s volley to prove to be the equaliser, there would have been plenty of Rangers fans in that split second who would have been confident that it was not beating McGregor.

The veteran has been a fantastic signing for Steven Gerrard’s side. He has already produced a number of outstanding displays when the Gers have needed him, and always seems to step up when he is called upon in the games that the Light Blues have dominated.

And that save at Hampden was unquestionably another reminder of how brilliant a piece of business it was from Rangers to bring him back to the club over the summer.
