Andrew Robertson discusses his frustrating start to Liverpool career

The Liverpool left-back has been used sparingly since joining from Hull City.

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has admitted that he has been left frustrated by his lack of game time since joining the club.

The left-back arrived at Liverpool from Hull City in the summer for £8 million but has been restricted to just two Premier League appearances so far this season, while he has yet to feature in the Champions League.

Robertson disclosed that he has spoken to manager Jurgen Klopp about his situation and added that he was delighted to feature in Scotland’s 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands last week.

As reported by the Daily Record, Robertson said: “Of course it’s difficult for me. I don’t make any secret of it. I hate not playing. It’s been a very frustrating three months for me.

“I was looking forward to the Holland game to, hopefully, get some game time. I’m delighted to have got 90 minutes. I was a bit rusty and it probably caught up with me in the last 20 minutes, but that’s something I’ve got to look at. I need to get more game time.

“I’ve spoken to the manager because I felt as if the settling-in period was over for me and I thought I was ready to play.

“I felt I did myself justice in the games I have played so I had a good chat with him, he gave me a few points to work on and that’s kept me going.

“I know I’m still well in his plans and, if I work on the things he’s asked me to, then, hopefully, I’ll be in the first team, or closer to it.”

It was initially anticipated that Robertson could quickly establish himself as Liverpool’s first-choice left-back but that eventuality certainly hasn’t transpired, with Alberto Moreno having improved significantly.

If Moreno continues to impress then it will be difficult for Robertson to force his way into the side but the 23-year-old remains a fine talent and will hope that he will get a sustained opportunity to impress in due course.

Liverpool have a hectic schedule coming up, with a host of Premier League games interspersed with Champions League fixtures, so there could well be some chances for Robertson to prove to Klopp that he deserves a regular run in the side.
