Andrew Robertson has suggested that Celtic’s Kieran Tierney was brilliant in Scotland’s World Cup qualifying win over Slovenia despite being deployed in the unfamiliar position of right-back, the Daily Record reports.
Tierney has established himself as arguably the best left-back in the Scottish Premiership since his emergence into the Hoops first-team, but there may have still been some concerns about him featuring in the role in the crucial clash at Hampden Park with Hull defender Robertson playing on the left.
But after the Scots kept a clean sheet and went on to secure an important 1-0 win that keeps their qualifying hopes alive, Robertson was full of praise for the contribution that the Bhoys man made.
“I think people pre-match were maybe doubting that one of us could play right,” he said, as reported by the Record.
“We were both confident that we could have done it. I’m sure Lee Wallace was confident he could have done, he just didn’t quite make it with injury.

“But I thought KT was brilliant out there on the right. It’s uncomfortable for him but it didn’t show and I thought I played well as well.”
Tierney’s display will be extremely pleasing to Brendan Rodgers, as the 19-year-old’s versatility should enable the Northern Irishman to rotate his options in future.

Emilio Izaguirre is perhaps the second best left-back in the top flight, and now Rodgers can be confident that he does not necessarily need to leave the Honduran out if Tierney is involved.
The only downside perhaps from a Celtic perspective, is that any team interested in signing the Hoops academy graduate would have seen the performance for the national team and realised just how talented a player Tierney is turning out to be, and thus, it would not be out of the question to suggest that the interest may now intensify.
