Andrew Hughes has suggested on BBC Radio Leeds that he would be open to returning to Leeds United as a coach.

Hughes played for Leeds from 2007 until 2010, and since his retirement from the professional game, the 41-year-old former midfielder has been coaching at Bolton Wanderers, Rotherham United, Crystal Palace and Huddersfield Town.

Hughes said on BBC Radio Leeds regarding a potential coaching role at Leeds in the future: “I would always consider any coaching opportunity if anyone came knocking and asking, especially with stature a club as big as Leeds.”

Hughes has coached at the Premier League level, and it will not be a bad idea for Leeds to add the former Norwich City midfielder to the coaching staff at Elland Road in the future.

Premier League promotion

Leeds are aiming to clinch promotion to the Premier League via the Championship playoffs.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side slipped up in the final few weeks of the campaign and allowed Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United to overtake them in the race for automatic promotion to the top flight of English football.

Leeds will take on Derby County in the Championship playoff semi-finals, and if they reach the final, then they will face either West Bromwich Albion or Aston Villa for a spot in the Premier League next season.
