Andrew Gutman completed his move to Celtic on deadline day.
Celtic were busy on transfer deadline day, securing four signings on the final day of the January transfer window, including that of Andrew Gutman.
The Bhoys landed Karpaty Lviv winger Maryan Shved before loaning him back to the Ukrainian side, and capped the day off by taking Borussia Dortmund full back Jeremy Toljan on loan for the rest of the season.
In between those moves, Celtic signed two young American talents, with full backs Manny Perez and Andrew Gutman signing on the dotted line.
Right back Perez had been on trial with Celtic having caught the eye with North Carolina State, whilst left back Gutman was actually on trial with Rangers but made a shock move to Celtic instead.
The 22-year-old had starred with Indiana University in the US collegiate system, and Celtic have now signed him as one for the future.
Celtic had planned to loan him out to Nashville, but Major League Soccer surprisingly blocked the move, meaning he remains with the Bhoys for now.
Many have wondered just how Gutman went from training with Rangers to signing for Celtic, and he has now opened up on his move to Parkhead, when it could have been Ibrox.
Gutman has admitted to Celtic’s official website that he felt ‘honoured’ when he heard that Celtic wanted him, praising the Bhoys as a ‘huge name’ in football with ‘tremendous’ fans, all words which will delight Celtic fans having gone from Rangers trialist to Celtic new boy.
“When I realised Celtic FC wanted to sign me permanently, I was really honoured,” said Gutman. “I know Celtic is a huge name in football, they have tremendous supporters and it is a club where I believe I can flourish as a player,” he added.
