Wolves signed Andreas Weimann from Derby County and, fortunately, their manager knows him inside out.
Kevin Nolan and Sam Allardyce, Paddy Kenny and Neil Warnock, sometimes a player and a manager just fits. To the point that their finest form is only ever witnessed when their favourite tactician is handing them instructions from the sidelines.
Therefore, Wolves fans will be hoping that Andreas Weimann, the Austrian striker signed on loan from Championship rivals Derby County, will soon display the kind of powerful running and emphatic finishing that made him a star under current boss Paul Lambert at Aston Villa.
After all, the 25-year-old scored more Premier League goals in the 2012/13 season under the Scotsman at Villa Park than he managed in a year and a half in the second tier with Derby.
And Weimann was more than effusive in his praise of Lambert’s man-management during their time together in the Midlands, something which will raise expectations that they can form quite the effective partnership once more at Molineux.
“He’s brilliant to work with. He’s doing an unbelievable job,” Weimann told the club’s official website in February 2014.
“He’s very hands-on and approachable with his players. If you have done something good, he will let you know immediately and praise you. Equally, he will get his message across to you if you’re not doing things how he wants or he thinks you can improve.
“His man-management skills are excellent.”
With the majority of Wolves’ strikers seemingly unable to locate the proverbial barn door with a certain stringed instrument, Weimann could prove an excellent addition to the squad in the second half of the season – particularly if Lambert works his magic once more.
