Derby County forward Andreas Weimann has taken to Twitter to express his excitement at an imminent return to the first team.
The 25-year-old featured 34 times last season for the Rams, often as part of as a winger in a 4-3-3, and he had impressed in preseason only to sustain a knee injury before the Championship campaign kicked off that has ruled him out since.
The Derby Telegraph had reported that the Austrian international was set to return to first team training this week, and Weimann himself has now spoken about his relief at completing his rehabilitation and his desire to get back out on the pitch.
In Weimann’s absence, Derby have had a disappointing start to life under Nigel Pearson, with only one win so far this season and currently on a run of three successive defeats after their 1-0 loss to Ipswich at the iPro Stadium on Tuesday night.
With Pearson tending to prefer a 4-4-2 system, the former Aston Villa man may have to work hard to find the fitness and form to challenge the starting line-up, even if results are not going the club’s way.
