Manchester United recorded their second domestic cup win in less than a year yesterday as they beat Southampton to win the EFL Cup.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a brace with Jesse Lingard also on target while Manolo Gabbiadini struck twice for the Saints.

One player hoping to be a part of United’s success next season is loanee Andreas Pereira, who netted for Jose Mourinho’s side in pre-season.

Pereira was paying attention, and sent a message to the Red Devils after the victory at Wembley.

The Brazil under-20 international has had a tough task this season playing in a struggling Granada side in La Liga, but has displayed a few moments of magic.

The midfielder needs to use his experience gained to impress Jose Mourinho in pre-season next year, as a midfield spot could be up for grabs.

Morgan Schneiderlin departed in January and Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger both face uncertain futures at the club, and it might be just the right time to bring Pereira back into the first team and avoid another Paul Pogba scenario where he feels pushed into leaving.
