Andrea Radrizzani will surely be hoping to make a big-name signing to ensure Leeds buzz continues

Leeds United had big news this week, but it would be even better if they added to their playing squad.

Earlier this week Leeds United fans finally got the news they had been waiting for, as Andrea Radrizzani competed a 50 per cent buy-out of the club.

While that means Massimo Cellino is still joint-owner of the Whites, it is a major boost as the club attempts to secure promotion back to the top flight after a superb first half of the campaign.

Given the change in circumstances, Leeds fans would be forgiven for expecting a big-name signing or two in what remains of the January transfer window; and in truth that is something Radrizzani will surely be desperate to pull off.

After all, imagine the disappointment if Leeds see out January with no new additions. It will, rightly or wrongly, somewhat distil the excitement that immediately greeted Radrizzani’s arrival.

Of course Leeds will not want to spend money for the sake of it, but when a new owner arrives during a transfer window there are certain expectations.

Leeds United manager Garry Monk

Leeds have an exciting squad that has done brilliantly under manager Garry Monk, moving into the play-off places and showing the tenacity required to stay there.

That said, they are still short in key areas, with an additional striker needed to cover any injury suffered by Chris Wood between now and May.

A big-name forward arriving at Elland Road would be the icing on the cake of Radrizzani’s arrival.

It would ensure Leeds fans know he is the real deal with the intention of making instant improvements without upsetting the apple cart.

And it would mean the elation felt among Leeds fans on Wednesday carries on well into February and beyond.
