Leeds United chairman Andrea Radrizzani has explained to The Times why he found it difficult at the end of last season.

The West Yorkshire outfit narrowly failed to finish in the top six of the Championship during the 2016-17 campaign despite being in the running for the playoffs for most of the season.

Radrizzani took full control of Leeds after the end of the season, and the Italian businessman has admitted that it was difficult for him to see the Whites fail to clinch a playoff spot.

The Leeds chairman, though, has suggested that the team’s failure to end up in the top six of the Championship last season made it easier for him to take full control of the club from Massimo Cellino.

“At the end of the season it was difficult because I was supporting Leeds on the pitch, I was emotionally sad and disappointed with results when we were not making points in the last games,” Radrizzani told The Times. “But I was also aware that my deal could be made easier.”

Leeds are one of the biggest clubs in England, but the Whites have not featured in the Premier League since 2004.

The Whites, though, will be looking to finish in the top six this season and have kicked off their new campaign on a positive note, winning 3-2 against Bolton Wanderers away from home at the Macron Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
