Andrea Radrizzani has responded to a tweet highlighting Steve Evans’ verdict on Marcelo Bielsa’s 2018 appointment at Leeds.
A supporter posted a tweet emphasising just how far the Yorkshire-based side have come since those comments were made.
As quoted by Sky Sports, the ex-Leeds boss said: ‘Will he know what it’s like going to the New York Stadium in Rotherham on a Tuesday night? I’m not so sure.
‘I’m looking at Steve Bruce and Mick McCarthy – English managers with track records of getting out of the Championship – and why are they not knocking on those doors?’
Now, those comments seem even more silly than they did at the time.
The tweet contains two images. One displaying roughly what Evans said, and another showing Bielsa on the shortlist for the FIFA Best Men’s Coach award.

The two images offer a nice contrast, and prove that Radrizzani was right to avoid the likes of Bruce and McCarthy in favour of hiring a more out-of-the-box manager.
As Bruce does a solid but unspectacular job at Newcastle, and McCarthy finds himself at Cyprus-based outfit APOEL Nicosia, the decision to appoint Bielsa looks even more shrewd.
If the Argentine’s fine work at Elland Road wasn’t already clear for all to see, his name alongside the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Hansi Flick should help open people’s eyes.
As we sit here now, Bielsa has been voted among the best three managers in world football.
We’ll say that again. Leeds United’s manager has been voted among the best three managers in world football.
