Leeds United chairman Andrea Radrizzani did not hold back in his assessment of the Whites’ FA Cup defeat.

Andrea Radrizzani has taken to Twitter in the wake of Leeds United’s FA Cup defeat to Newport County on Sunday, and the Whites chairman has described the upset as his lowest moment since he arrived at Elland Road.

Despite knowing all too well how the competition can bring the best out of the teams that Leeds should normally dispatch with relative ease – after last season’s loss to Sutton United in the fourth round – Thomas Christiansen’s men would have undoubtedly expected to ensure that they were in the hat for the fourth round, especially as they had beaten the League Two side 5-1 in the Carabao Cup this term.

And that belief would have only increased when Leeds took the lead inside nine minutes thanks to Gaetano Berardi’s brilliant strike from distance which fizzed into the back of the net.

However, Newport looked the more likely to score throughout the rest of the game. And while Leeds were fairly comfortable in the first-half, the home side were quite dominant after the break.

Two goals in the final 14 minutes – including the 89th minute winner – and a red card for substitute Samuel Saiz ensured that the competition would end in nightmare fashion once again for Leeds, with Newport deservedly coming out on top.

And the Leeds chairman did not hold back in his assessment of the defeat.

Radrizzani – who is in his first full season in charge of the Championship outfit – praised Newport for showing the passion that was missing from Leeds’ performance, and signed the tweet off by referring to the game as the lowest point in his tenure – and in all honestly, it is hard to disagree with his comments.
