Leeds United were expected to make some real statement signings upon their promotion to the Premier League, but rather than bringing in big, high-profile names, they made a number of astute purchases.

The likes of Raphinga, Rodrigo and Diego Llorente have been fantastic additions to the squad, but it’s hard to describe any of them as blockbuster signings.

Leeds certainly thought about making a big splash in the transfer window. Andrea Radrizzani has previously admitted that he made an approach to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, while he also said he considered bringing in Edinson Cavani.

As we all know, those free transfer moves never came to fruition, but Radrizzani may be lining up an even bigger and perhaps better free agent striker.

Indeed, this week Leeds have been linked with a move for Sergio Aguero, and that would be an almighty statement signing.

Now, we don’t need to insult your intelligence by telling you what Aguero would bring to Leeds. His reputation precedes him and the fact he’s one of the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorers tells you all you need to know about him.

Aguero is undoubtedly going to be one of the hottest free agents on the market this summer, and with the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona linked, it would be a real coup for the Whites if they’re able to bring him in.

Cavani was a target for Leeds last summer, but they didn’t manage to get that one over the line.

Despite the fact they didn’t land the Uruguayan, it doesn’t seem as though Leeds’ ambition has wavered at all, and if they land Aguero, it would arguably be an even bigger statement than landing Cavani would have been.
