Leeds United returned to winning ways in the Championship on Saturday afternoon. The Whites got the better of Preston North End 3-0 at Elland Road.
The West Yorkshire outfit headed into the match against Preston on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Brentford away from home at Griffin Park in the league.
It was Leeds’s second successive loss in the Championship following a 1-0 defeat to Reading away from home at the Madejski Stadium.
Garry Monk’s side deservedly picked up all three points from the encounter, and former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was impressed.
“This was the perfect response after two defeats and a string of average away performances,” Whelan told BBC Sport. “We saw commitment, energy, passion, creativity, midfielders scoring, defensive duties from everyone, the full whack.
“It could have been more than 3-0 – the crossbar, the disallowed goal. I’m surprised Norwich didn’t score but it could have been a Norwich scoreline. Leeds played great football and I don’t think you can take the win away from them.”
Leeds co-owner Andrea Radrizzani has revelled in the win for the home team on social networking site Twitter.
Kemar Roofe put Leeds in the lead after 18 minutes, and Pablo Hernandez doubled the advantage on the stroke of half time.
Souleymane Doukara wrapped up the three points for the home team with his goal in the third minute of injury time.
Preston ended the game with 10 men due to the sending-off of Alex Baptiste in the 86th minute.
