West Ham’s interest in Celta Vigo forward Maxi Gomez is no secret, with the London Evening Standard claiming that the Uruguayan is the east London outfit’s top target.
The problem is, however, that the Spanish side are not prepared to sell the 22-year-old for anything less than his £44 million release clause, according to the London Evening Standard.
So should West Ham switch targets?
One potential option for them could be Torino hitman Andrea Belotti.
The Hammers wanted to sign the Italian in January, according to Cuore Toro, and were prepared to pay €50 million (£45 million) for his services.
Whilst that is more than Gomez’s release clause, Belotti is far more established, and has a better goalscoring record than the Celta hitman.
The 22-year-old has bagged 31 goals in 75 games for Celta Vigo, whilst the Italian has notched 70 strikes in 148 games for Torino.
At 25-years-old, the 22-capped Italy international is now entering his prime years as a striker, and he seems to be the more ready-made option for West Ham.
Belotti is perfectly built for the Premier League, and he could be a huge hit in east London.
