Gary Rowett admitted his interest in Liverpool’s Andre Wisdom recently – but Red Bull Salzburg look set to sign him permanently for £4m.

It seems that Andre Wisdom is finally ready to cut ties with Liverpool this summer. After four loan spells away from Anfield since the start of 2013, The Sun report that the 23-year-old is poised to join Red Bull Salzburg for £4 million after an impressive temporary spell in Austria this season.

Salzburg cruised to yet another league title with Wisdom a vital part of their squad and it appears that the former England youth international could join an exclusive club of British players plying their trade abroad.

This, however, could represent a major blow to Derby County’s transfer plans. Wisdom spent a successful year on loan at Pride Park in 2013/14, with only Bobby Zamora’s last-gasp Wembley winner denying Derby a place in the Premier League via the play-offs.

And Rams’ boss Gary Rowett admitted recently that the club may jump at the chance to bring Wisdom back to the East Midlands.

“He is athletic, strong and has potential to play in the Premier League – so he is the type of player we are interested in,” Rowett told the Derby Telegraph.

As it stands, however, it appears that Derby will be forced to look elsewhere as they aim to reinforce the right of their defence.

Wisdom in Paterson deal?

Though perhaps this is the perfect time to renew their interest in Hearts’ flying Callum Paterson. The Championship big-hitters were heavily linked with a move for the 22-year-old heading into the January transfer window, only for a serious injury to put the brakes on a potential transfer, the Daily Record reports.

However, with the five-time Scotland international out of contract in the summer, Derby should take a punt on Paterson. Once he recovers fully from that cruciate ligament blow, the adventurous full-back could regain the form that made him one of Scotland’s most exciting young talents.

And he could maybe even prove a better fit than the comparatively reserved Wisdom.
