The Portuguese boss led Spurs to their highest ever Premier League points tally.
Tottenham Hotspur fans are undoubtedly happy with their current coach Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine nearly led the club to a successful title challenge last season but a last minute drop in form saw Spurs eventually finish third – and well behind league winners Leicester City.
One former Spurs boss does however believe that his Tottenham side might have won the league title in this current Premier League campaign.

Portuguese manager Andre Villas-Boas took over Spurs in 2012 and led them to their highest ever points tally that season, with 72 points. It was also the highest tally of points for any team who finished out of the top four in the Premier League.
Speaking to FIFA.com this week he suggested that in another season he might have been able to guide Spurs to the league title:
“It was a period of highs and lows. Obviously, it wasn’t a spell where we won titles that I could be proud of.
“But, during that time Tottenham managed to secure their record number of points, a historical moment for the club. Maybe, if that had happened at a different time like this season we might have even been champions.”

Of course 72 points would not have been enough to win the league this season, with Leicester finishing the campaign with 81 points. However, it would have been enough to see them finish second – so AVB can rightly still feel aggrieved at how he was dismissed the following campaign:
“The last season that I spent at Tottenham was the one that was totally unpredictable. We had more points and more victories than the previous season.
“Unfortunately, the chairman and the board had stopped believing in the coach so decided to change him and that was a shame.”
He was sacked by Spurs with the club seventh in the Premier League in December 2013, following a 5-0 home defeat to eventual title challengers Liverpool.
This was however in spite of a decent points record in comparison to the previous year, an exemplary Europa League record and a quarter-final place in the League Cup.
AVB had however lost the fans at Spurs after a string of poor performances at White Hart Lane and a failure to turn the many signings the club had made after the sale of Gareth Bale into hits.
So whilst he may still feel slightly aggrieved at his departure, Spurs fans would no doubt still pick Poch over AVB.
