Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas speaks fondly of his Chelsea counterpart.

Ahead of today’s Premier League encounter at White Hart Lane, Villas-Boas, who spent seven years working for Mourinho at Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan, has told Tottenham fans Mourinho was influential in his upbringing as a coach.

It comes a day after both managers were asked the question about the “breakdown” in their once-close relationship.

Villas-Boas had insisted that he did “not lost any sleep” over the “breakdown,” whilst Mourinho refused to comment, saying “I don’t discuss, because I’m not a kid, I don’t discuss relationships with the media. I don’t care what he says. I’m not interested.”

Five factors that will decide Tottenham vs Chelsea

The Chelsea boss did say he thought Tottenham were title contenders with the quality in their team.

In the official matchday programme, Villas-Boas put the tension to one side and praised his opposite number.

“Jose was influential in my upbringing as a coach. He gave me the opportunity to go in to professional football and I was able to enjoy great success working for him.

“He has made Chelsea what they are. His influence on them has been tremendous and his legacy speaks for itself.”
