The Portuguese was sacked as manager of Tottenham Hotspur five years ago.

Andre Villas-Boas, the newly announced football coach for Shanghai SIPG, speaks during a press conference in Shanghai on November 4, 2016.

Former Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas sat down for an exclusive interview with Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport, and did not hold back in his criticism of the north London outfit’s board, suggesting that they destroyed everything that he created at the club.

The 41-year-old was appointed as Spurs boss in July 2012, and led his side to what was then their highest ever Premier League points tally of 72, and a fifth placed finish in the league.

Villas-Boas was then sacked in December of 2013, however, after Tottenham made a poor start to their 2013/14 campaign.

In the summer of that year, Spurs sold Gareth Bale to Real Madrid for a then world record fee of £85.3 million, and proceeded to bring in seven new signings, including Roberto Soldado, Étienne Capoue and Paulinho.

The Portuguese spoke exclusively to Corriere dello Sport, and hinted that the Tottenham board ruined all of the good work he did at White Hart Lane by bringing in seven new names, and ignoring some of his suggestions:

“We picked up the most points in Spurs’ history with an incredible Bale who played behind Adebayor where he was free to move, but also with Lennon and Walker who allowed us to have a good counter-attacking 4-4-2. In April, we started planning for the next season. I offered some names to buy and sell, but during the transfer window, the board didn’t listen and quickly destroyed everything we’d created.”

Tottenham have gone from strength-to-strength, however, since AVB left and Mauricio Pochettino took over in the summer of 2014, and there will not be too many Spurs fans, if any, who believe that their club made the wrong decision when sacking the Portuguese.
