Andre Schurrle has taken to Twitter to clear up confusion over his Fulham future after he was quoted earlier in the week as saying he could leave Craven Cottage at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.
The 28-year-old joined Fulham from Borussia Dortmund on a two-year loan deal that is set to expire at the end of the 2019-20 campaign. But Schurrle’s comments with German magazine Kicker claim there is a get-out clause.
The former Chelsea attacker told Kicker: “My loan would end in if Fulham are relegated, and the contract at Dortmund would be active again.” Schurrle has a contract at Dortmund until the summer of 2021.
But the 57-time Germany international has now opted to clear up his future on Twitter to disgruntled Fulham fans, who are not impressed after reading his recent comments. Schurrle posted on Twitter, blaming a dodgy translation.
The German ace has been in decent form for Claudio Ranieri’s side this season, scoring six goals in 21 Premier League appearances. He is part of a front three that boasts Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ryan Babel.
It remains to be seen if there is indeed a clause in Schurrle’s contract that will see his temporary stay at Craven Cottage expire in the summer if the club are relegated. They currently sit in 19th place in the Premier League table.
