Referee Andre Marriner is the protagonist in Southampton’s most popular Vine on the social media video site.

The 45-year-old official attempted to stifle Sadio Mané’s celebrations as he looked to take home the match ball following his hat-trick versus Aston Villa in the Premier League two seasons ago.

As the then-23-year-old clasps the match ball as the customary award for completing the feat, Marriner swipes the ball away from Mané with his own brand of West Midlands humour.

The match official momentarily walked away with the ball to the amusement of his refereeing troupe – and the bemusement of Mane – before handing it back to the player.

To his credit, Mane took the jest in good spirits and shared a joked with the Englishman. The vine has had over 16 millions views.

The Senegalese star’s hat-trick in May 2015 was his first for The Saints, before his move to Liverpool earlier this summer in a £34m move.

His triple broke former Reds striker Robbie Fowler’s record for the fastest hat-trick in league history, when the forward scored against Arsenal in 4 minutes and 33 seconds at Anfield in 1994.

Sadio Mané’s time of two minutes and 56 seconds broke Fowler’s previous time by a minute and 37 seconds, as the Villans fell to a 6-1 thrashing at St. Mary’s.

The former Metz and Red Bull Salzburg man went on to notch double figures for Southampton that term, scoring 10 goals during 32 appearances in all competitions.
