Tottenham and Everton were linked with Andre Gray before he signed with Watford.

Andre Gray secured his big move away from Burnley in the summer when he signed with Watford.

The Hornets paid £18.5 million for his signature, more than their Premier League rivals were prepared to stump up.

The Mail reported in April last year that Tottenham Hotspur were keen on signing Gray.

The Liverpool Echo reported two months later that Everton were holding talks over his signature.

So far Gray has not done enough to show either club that they made a mistake.

This season he has scored four goals in 26 Premier League games, 13 of which have been as a starter.

He provided two assists in back-to-back games in November, but there have been none since.

It’s not that Gray has been terrible, but he has not done enough to leave the teams who didn’t move cursing their luck.

Gray has fallen behind Stefano Okaka and Troy Deeney in the pecking order at Watford in recent weeks although new manager Javi Gracia has given him his backing, telling the Watford Observer: “It is not because he is not working well, it’s because I have to choose. I don’t know what will happen in the next games, it is possible Andre will play more.”

The striker is not really in a better position at Watford than had he stayed put at Burnley, who are three places above them in the Premier League table.

While Tottenham were looking for a reliable back-up for Harry Kane and Gray could well have been better than Fernando Llorente, he’s not shown it.

Everton have been crying out for a reliable goalscorer since selling Romelu Lukaku. They won’t be turning to Vicarage Road this summer to consider their former target,
