If rumours are to be believed then Tottenham Hotspur haven’t given up on signing Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes.

The Express reported on Saturday that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino remains a fan of the 24-year-old who was linked with a North London move during most of last summer.

Gomes isn’t a key member of the Barcelona squad and has only started five games in all competitions this season.

It seems like he might well be available, but what does it mean for Harry Winks if the Portugal international joins Tottenham?

The 21-year-old has enjoyed an excellent breakout season with the Lilywhites but signing Gomes would see him fall to Pochettino’s third-choice central midfielder, behind Gomes and Mousa Dembele.

Winks turns 22 next month but he still isn’t the finished article and you wonder what impact a reduction in football would have on his development.

He needs regular football in the second half of the season and perhaps a loan move away from Tottenham is wise if Gomes comes in.
