Everton secured their first Premier League win of the season on Saturday as Marco Silva’s men beat his former club.

Bernard of Everton celebrates scoring the opening goal during the Premier League match between Everton FC and Watford FC at Goodison Park on August 17, 2019 in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Bernard was joined by both Lucas Digne and Andre Gomes in taking to Twitter to express his delight at helping Everton secure their first win of the new season on Saturday as Marco Silva’s men beat his old side 1-0 at Goodison Park.

After an underwhelming performance on the opening day at Crystal Palace, the Toffees faithful would have been hoping to see a much better display against Watford – especially after they had been beaten 3-0 at home in their curtain-raiser.

Everton did secure the three points, with Bernard scoring what proved to be the game’s only goal after 10 minutes. A brilliant long pass from Digne allowed the Brazilian to run at the defenders before cutting back and driving the ball into the bottom corner at the near post.

Both Gomes and Digne took to social media to laud the atmosphere that the Everton supporters created in their first home game of the campaign, with the left-back suggesting that Goodison Park was a fortress.

It does feel that Everton are building a squad that has the potential to cause a few surprises this term. The likes of Digne and Bernard will be hoping to kick on after extremely bright first seasons on Merseyside, while bringing Gomes back permanently looks to have the potential to be an inspired piece of business.

And they will be hoping to follow their first home win by securing their first victory on their travels this coming Friday when they face Aston Villa.
