The summer signing made his return for West Ham in the EFL Cup win over Chelsea.
West Ham United’s Andre Ayew misses a chance to score
West Ham United forward Andre Ayew has thanked the club’s fans for motivating him during his injury lay-off, via his official Instagram account.
The forward joined the club in the summer transfer window in a £20.5 million move (BBC Sport) from Swansea City.
His time in London started in disaster, though, as he tore a thigh muscle in the opening game of the season against Chelsea.
That injury ruled him out until this week when he made his return in the 2-1 win over Chelsea in the EFL Cup in midweek.
He will now be hoping to get back his sharpness and help the Hammers turn around their season and he has thanked the club’s fans for motivating him during his time out.
“I’m really glad that I was able to get back on the field,” he wrote on his Instagram account.
“I’m so grateful for all the support I received and it definitely kept me driven to recover faster. I can’t thank the medical staff of West Ham enough for the big role they played in getting me back into shape and they were amazing.”
“Most importantly I want to thank my West Ham fans for standing by me and motivating me when I was down.”

West Ham will now be hoping that Ayew can get back to full fitness sooner rather than later and help improve their forward options.
The Hammers have managed just ten goals in the league so far, the fourth lowest tally in the division.
That has largely been down to the struggles of their forwards, with Simone Zaza going nine games without a goal since joining in the summer.
That has played a major part in their early season struggles and getting Ayew back to fitness and among the goals will surely be chief among their priorities moving forward.
