West Ham United’s Andre Ayew left for Swansea City on deadline day.
Former West Ham United forward Andre Ayew completed a move back to Swansea City on deadline day – and took to Twitter to send a message upon his departure.
Ayew, 28, joined Swansea back in the summer of 2015 having made his name with Marseille, and hit 12 Premier League goals in an outstanding first season for the Swans, which attracted strong interest.
West Ham swooped to sign him in the summer of 2016, as manager Slaven Bilic forked out a club-record £20million fee (BBC) to land the Ghanaian forward, seemingly making a huge addition to his attacking ranks.
However, Ayew struggled to live up to his price tag with the Hammers, scoring just six times last season in a frustrating campaign, and this term hasn’t gone much better either.
Ayew has scored three Premier League goals but failed to nail down a regular place under David Moyes, and the Hammers have now decided to cash in on the forward.
On deadline day, Ayew was sold back to former club Swansea for £18million (Sky Sports), meaning West Ham took a loss just to get him out of the London Stadium, and he will now head back to the Liberty Stadium to aid Swansea’s fight against relegation.
After completing his late move back to South Wales, Ayew took to Twitter to post a message to Hammers fans, thanking them for their support and also thanking his team-mates.
Ayew thanked his former boss Bilic for bringing him to West Ham, and finally looked ahead to his second spell with Swansea after his late move.
