The left-back gave City endless problems last night.
Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne in action with Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy
Monaco sent Manchester City packing in the Champions League last night, with a brilliant 3-1 win in the principality.
One of the star performers in the fixture was Monaco’s powerful left-back Benjamin Mendy. The 22-year-old French under-21 international put in a fantastic performance at full-back, running City raged for much of the game.
West Ham United’s Andre Ayew applauds fans after the game
It was a performance that caught the eye of a Premier League player, and a former team-mate of Mendy’s.
Andre Ayew of West Ham United played with Mendy at his former club Marseille and was happy to see him putting in such an impressive performance. He sent this Twitter message to his old pal:
He was also probably congratulating the player after he received a call-up for the French national team.
The West Ham man will not have pleased any City fans with his tweet, but it goes to show the affinity he still has with his former team-mates.
Ayew will now be looking to improve his own form at West Ham. His first season in London has been side-tracked by various injury problems, playing just 16 times and scoring three goals, and he will be hoping he can turn things around in the weeks to come.
