During the recently concluded Premier League campaign, Wolverhampton Wanderers pipped Everton to a top seven spot and, as a result, a place in the Europa League qualifiers.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side won that race to Europe, but who will win the chase for Benfica right-back Andre Almeida, who is attracting interest from a host of Premier League clubs.

The Sun claims that Everton and Wolves are leading the chase for the title-winning defender, who is also attracting interest from Southampton, Leicester City and Brighton.

Almeida can be described as a typical modern day full-back, who likes to showcase his skills and qualities in the attacking third.

Over the course of the season, the 28-year-old made 33 appearances for the Liga NOS champions, scoring two goals and supplying his teammates with 12 assists [transfermarkt].

Added with that, in 185 appearances in Portugal’s top-flight, Almeida has proven to be a bit of an assist machine because he has supplied the service to his teammates on 30 occasions [transfermarkt].

If he had a choice the experienced fullback should opt to join Everton over Wolves and the other host of clubs interested in his services.

Marco Silva is building a strong group of players at Goodison Park and he just needs to sprinkle more magic on the team and they’ll be ready to take the next step.

Signing someone like Almeida would do just that and this time next season Everton might find themselves ahead of Wolves and potentially in a European spot.

Wolves’ toughest test will come next season when they are in Europe and will be treated as a marked team. Whilst they have had a great rise in recent seasons, they aren’t proven in England’s top-flight like Everton are.
