Andre Agassi knows what Carlos Alcaraz is dealing with as he continues to recover from a wrist injury.

Alcaraz picked up the injury at the Barcelona Open back in April and has been out of action since. The Spaniard was forced to miss Roland Garros and has also withdrawn from Wimbledon.

The 21-year-old, who currently holds seven Grand Slam titles, had plenty of fans worried about how serious it might be, though his latest updates have offered a more encouraging outlook.

Agassi dealt with similar injuries during his own playing days and recently shared what he thinks might happen when Alcaraz makes his return.

Andre Agassi backs Carlos Alcaraz to come back stronger

Agassi spoke about Alcaraz’s injury on The Big T Podcast, where he was asked if the Spaniard could return to the level he left off at.

Although not fully aware of Alcaraz’s specific situation, the American sounded optimistic but stressed the importance of letting the injury heal completely before making a comeback.

“I hope so,” Agassi said. “I mean, it’d be really nice of him or somebody on his behalf helps us understand what he’s really with because you know we’re speculating.

“If we are talking about a form of tendonitis, are we talking about dorsal capsulitis, are we talking about carpal tunnel? What are we talking about and what’s the solvent and what’s the expectation on that solvent? I don’t know what he’s dealing with.

“If he’s dealing with something that he’s trying to calm down and he’s choosing that road before surgery, it’s a smart thing to do even if he’s missing a couple Slams. But if he’s dealing with something that requires more radical measures, you need to choose wisely. You need to get it done by the best in the business. You need to let it heal, because you got a long life ahead of you.

“So one of the things I think it’ll do, it’ll make somebody who obviously loves the game and is hungry about the game even more grateful for the opportunity to come back and do it. I think you’re going to see a more vicious Alcaraz if he can take care of the one thing he only has one of, which is a right wrist.”

Did Agassi win Grand Slams after wrist surgery?

Reports suggest Alcaraz is dealing with tenosynovitis, an inflammation of the tendon sheath in his right wrist. It’s a familiar issue for Agassi, who underwent surgery to address it back in December 1993.

He was also 23 at the time and still managed to add to his trophy cabinet after that operation. Before surgery, he had just one major title. He went on to win seven more after that, even though wrist problems did pop up again during his career.

This should be encouraging for Alcaraz, who has not yet undergone surgery during his recovery period away from the ATP Tour.
